Artists Comment:
This is a large painting. The action painting shown elsewhere on this web site
were developed in the Pollock manner. That is, standing at the edges of the
canvas using arm and body motion. This painting was developed differently. I
applied the paint and movement as I moved around "on" the painting
surface. Pollock was not able to do this because he worked with canvas. I use
MDO which is a hard rigid surface. This allows me to use movements of my arms
and body as well as movement of my legs and feet to apply and massage the paint.
I am reminded of the advice of Betty Edward's in her book on right-brain drawings.
She advocated using the left hand (controlled by the right side of the brain)
to make expressive drawings. I hope that my painting using both arms, body movement,
both legs and feet shows an expressive quality.
