Artists Comment:
Do you remember the first time you killed something? When I was young, I
watched and thought I would like to be a soldier and hero. The more bad guys
you killed the bigger the hero you were. We were told, we were right and
they deserved to die. If you opposed war and killing, you were unpatriotic
and a wimp. Today, movies and books, papers and magazines, sports and TV
all glorify violence. Even the Bible is horribly violent. It is no wonder
that kids searching for role models turn to violence. When I was a kid, I
felt really bad after I killed a little bird. I know my dad was concerned
that I might be some sort of oddball. I think killing is not in the true
nature of man.
